Captain/Commander of Jet Airways
On June 15, 2016, I was the Captain/Commander of Jet Airways Flight 9W 2839, operating an ATR 72 aircraft with 67 passengers and 4 crew members on board. The flight was a short sector from Bangalore to Mangalore.
Shortly after takeoff from Bangalore, the cabin began to fill with thick smoke, prompting the flight crew to initiate a return to Bangalore. Within a few minutes, the right engine caught fire. Despite the challenging circumstances, we successfully executed an emergency landing and carried out a safe evacuation of all passengers on the runway.
Currently, I am serving as a Senior Commander with Air India. Additionally, I am on lien, working as a Flight Operations Inspector with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), under the Ministry of Civil Aviation.
